I am Committed To Making Centerville Great

It is a privilege to raise my family in Centerville. Serving you on the City Council these last four years has been an honor. I look forward to 4 more years of working toward a quality Centerville.

I have been, and will continue to be, committed to …

Arts, Parks, and Trails

Arts, Parks and Trails have been shown to increase property values, municipal revenues, quality of life, and physical health. It’s been an honor to serve on the Administrative Control Board of the Davis Center for the Performing Arts, the Parks Committee, and the South Davis Recreation District Board. Our recreation programs provide amazing classes and family-oriented events. The parks committee has worked diligently on a thoughtful park improvement plan. A city-wide trails plan will help us stay fit and connected and enhances our “small-town” feel. I support the success of these plans and programs.

Complete Streets

How we build our streets greatly determines the character of our city. Our roads make up about 30% of our city’s total land area. Seeing people “out and about” is part of what helps create a small-town feel. For people to be out and about, they need streets they feel safe on. Many of our citizens are too young to drive. Many of our citizens enjoy running, walking and biking for exercise. Do we give them their fair share of safe space? Are our sidewalks wide enough? Do we want more trees between the sidewalk and street to help beautify our city and help our walkers to feel more safe? Roads can be designed to be friendly to both automobile and other users. This is always my goal.

Fiscal Conservatism

Centerville has a great tradition of being fiscally conservative. The current council is committed to continuing this tradition. This council voted unanimously to raise property tax rates this year because it was the fiscally responsible thing to do. We had been pinching pennies for too long in areas that were going to cost us much more if maintenance continued to be deferred. To continue to “kick the can down the road” would be to burden future generations with enormous costs. I will continue to encourage finding creative ways to get more bang for our buck, without sacrificing the high quality that makes Centerville such a great place to live.

Positive Economic Development

Being fiscally conservative is our good defense. It is also important to play strong offense. I will continue to encourage quality planning which invites and supports successful businesses in our community. We have plans in place for a high-end business park west of the freeway that will provide a needed job base for our city. I support this plan. In addition, our west side has untapped potential and I will continue to push for proactive planning in this area. Our Pages Lane are and Main Street are due for revitalization. Will we do this in a way that is economically productive for our city? That is what I would support. And of course, I will continue to support our existing businesses for success.

Above all, I am committed to:

Increased Public Involvement

I was deeply saddened by the fact that there were not enough candidates this year to hold an election for the two City Council positions that were open. The reason I do this job is my commitment to and love for the inspired process that is our representative democracy. The most important part of that process is hearing the voice of the people at election time!

I am absolutely committed to working to increase the involvement of our citizens in our public process. I know we are all very busy with many good things in our lives. Therefore, I want to do all I can to make this involvement as easy and accessible as possible.
